In 2012, 17-year-old, African-American teen, Trayvon Martin, was shot and killed in Sanford, Florida by a self-appointed neighborhood watch man, George Zimmerman.
News coverage left the Black community heart broken and outraged with the event that created the hashtag “Black Lives Matter”.
Six years later a docuseries has been created in memoriam of the young man. Executive producers are Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, alongside them is rapper Jay-z who was also the executive producer for “the Kalief Browder Story”.
The documentary will target the unseen events and interviews that took place around the time of the killing.
“Rest in Power” will feature black men in different communities speaking on how the event and those that have followed have affected them.
The Paramount Network has gone to release an official track and trailer for the docuseries called “Rest in Power” by The Roots frontman, Black Thought.
