While on their tour the royal couple stopped in New Zealand and Dutchess Meghan Markle gave an amazing speech about women’s right to vote at the government house reception. Before joining the royal family, the Dutchess was known for her feminist views and now she is continuing to use her platform to encourage female empowerment and unity.
While celebrating New Zealand’s 125th anniversary of suffrage Markle stated,
“The achievements of the women of New Zealand who campaigned for the right to vote, and were the very first in the world to achieve it, are universally admired. While looking forward to this very special occasion, I reflected on the importance of the achievement, but also on the larger impact of what it symbolizes…because yes, women’s suffrage is about feminism, but feminism’s about fairness”, stated Meghan.
