The city of Chicago wants actor Jussie Smollett to pay $130,000 for the investigation cost of his alleged hate crime that took place in February.
The Cook County Law Department sent Jussie a letter last Thursday (March 28th) entitled “Re: Repayment of Investigation Costs for False Police Report”. The letter stated that the city is requesting “immediate payment of the $130,106.15 expended on overtime hours in the investigation of this matter.”
However, Jussie and his legal defense team feel otherwise. They feel the actorowes the city nothing since all 16 counts were dropped. Since Jussie refuses to pay the Law Department is expected to take legal action. The Department is drafting up a civil complaint that will be filed in circuit court.
