Karol G and Becky G released a new single called “Mamiii” that is already hitting the streaming platforms. In only one week, the single is already the fifth in the Spotify Charts with 2.1 million streams, and on Youtube already has 32 million views.
Produced by Ovy on the Drums, the track starts off slow with melancholic guitar chords but it quickly takes a turn and transitions into a bouncy anthem about the empowerment that comes after letting go of a toxic relationship.
The single, released on Thursday, Feb. 10, comes four years since the pair’s last song together at the Billboard‘s Latin Music Week. In 2018, Becky and Karol talked about crossing paths and having a “natural connection.” Thus, a collaboration was long overdue.
“I’ve always said that juntas, somos mas. When women unite and work together, we’re able to create a meaningful and lasting impact,” Becky shared in a press release. “Karol and I had been waiting for this moment for a while, but we knew the song had to be perfect and represent both of our spirits and hearts.”
After the release of the song, the Mexican singer Paquita la del Barrio, whose real name is Francisca Viveros thanked the artists and said she was proud more women are being listened to across the different music genres.
Both singers have had a good 2021 and kicked off the year with a great start as well. In 2021, Becky G released the hit “Bella Ciao”, and partnered with Christina Aguilera, Nicki Nicole, and Nathy Peluso on “Pa Mis Muchachas,” another women empowerment anthem.
Karol G released her album KG0516 and launched a solo tour to prove to the world she could do an amazing show without the need of any fellow reggaeton singers in her performance. The tour included a homecoming show in Medellín, where she became the first female reggaeton artist to perform at Colombia’s beloved Estadio Atanasio Giradot.
Just this week Karol announced a partnership with Crocs and after a couple of days, the line of products was already sold out worldwide.
