Back in August 2021, Gabby Petito was killed by her fiancé Brian Laundrie whilst they were on a 4-month trip, travelling with their campervan.
The trip began on 2nd July 2021, planning to last for four months, however Petito disappeared end of August.
The Lifetime movie is said explore the relationship between Petito and her fiancé, and delving into what may have happened on that trip.
The film has a working title of ‘The Gabby Petito story’ and is going to be used as part of the Lifetime ‘Stop Violence Against Women’ initiative.
Petito’s mother has recently released a statement which reads ‘’ “We thought our followers should know that the Lifetime movie on Gabby Petito has no connection to the Petito family nor did they give their approval’’ going on to explain how Lifetime have ‘’took it upon themselves’’ to make the movie.
Production for the film is set to start this summer and then is going to premiere later in the year.
Thora Birch is set to direct, and portray Petito’s mother, Nicole Schmidt.
It also seems to be that even members of the public aren’t happy with the news that Lifetime are making a film over a tragic loss, with many people wanting to start a petition so it doesn’t go ahead; others are saying they are ‘’trying to make money off a tragedy’’.
