It has been 20 years since we were first introduced to the magic of the Harry Potter movies, and to mark the occasion we were treated with a 2- hour special which included brand new interviews with the cast, a big cast reunion, addressing rumours, behind the scenes chats, tributes and a few awkward moments.
What a magical way to start 2022!
Starting with the ‘love confession’ of the show! Emma Watson who is known for playing Hermione Granger, spoke about the moment when she ‘’fell in love’’ with fellow cast member Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy). She spoke of the specific moment she ‘’fell’’, when the cast were asked to draw what they think God looks like, and Tom drew a girl with a backward hat on a skateboard. What a joker!
The cast also looked back on the on and off-screen relationships during filming, in particular the fans favourite of Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Gary Oldman (Sirius Black). Alfonso Cuaron (director) picked up on the similar bond between them, that Harry and Sirius had, whilst filming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Alfonso said that Daniel was daunted at first however… ‘’Gary was amazingly generous as a person but also as an actor. He immediately embraced him and included him in the acting process. It was really sweet to see the two of them, and it was almost as if it was mirroring that relationship”
The reunion also paid tribute to cast members that we have lost over the years, with some of the actors’ sharing stories of their beloved colleagues and friends such as Richard Harris (Dumbledore), Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) and Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy).
There were also a few mistakes during the show that the fans pointed out! The first awkward moment was when actress Emma Roberts baby photo was shown instead of Emma Watson! I guess with them both having the same first name it can get confusing…
The second mistake is a little bit more understandable… with the Phelps twins (Fred and George Weasley) having their names/roles mixed up.
