British actor and icon, Leslie Phillips, has died age 98, passing away ‘’peacefully in his sleep’’ on Monday, his agent has confirmed.
Phillips was best known for his roles in the Carry On franchise, and in later years for his work in the Harry Potter films as the voice of the ‘Sorting Hat’.
He had his first film appearance in the 1930s, shortly after he starred alongside Gene Kelly in the musical Les Girls.
He starred in three major Carry On films; Carry On Nurse, Carry On Teacher and Carry On Constable; he shortly became known for his own catchphrases and quirks, such as ‘’I say!’’ and ‘’Ding Dong!’’
