After years of sharing his own journey with anxiety and depression and pushing to destigmatize mental health in the Latinx community, J Balvin announced that he’s launching a bilingual mental wellness app in fall 2022.
The app, Oye, will feature daily wellness practices in English and Spanish, including guided reflections, routines of expressive movement, and guidance for improving relationships.
“Through my own journey with mental health and wellness, I was inspired and committed to bringing resources to more people around the world,” Balvin said in a press release. “With OYE, we have created a community-focused platform that will provide engaging and accessible emotional wellness practices for all.”
For years, the Colombian artist and performer has been a public advocate of the need to focus on one’s mental wellness encouraging fans across the globe to listen to their bodies when they sense something seems off.
For his new project, Balvin partnered with happiness activist and ed-tech executive, Mario Chamorro, global creative and social impact executive, Patrick Dowd, and journalist and media executive, Isaac Lee, to create the mental wellness app.
Also with his therapist, Carlos Lopez, and wellness leader and mind-body connection expert Mari Sierra. Both will co-chair Oye’s Wellness Council, the website of the app says.
“From Latin America to the world, we are building a community where taking care of our emotional well-being is part of daily life,” says the website.
Earlier this year, Balvin was announced as the host of a Peacock docuseries, “Gente Sana,” in which different celebrities will share their own mental health challenges and coping strategies.
Oye will officially launch in September, but there’s a good incentive to join now: if you sign up for Oye before it launches, you’ll receive one year of free membership for the app’s resources, and personal updates from Balvin himself.
