Ten years after her death, Jenni Rivera will finally have her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Mexican regional music singer was considered and selected by a committee of previous star recipients and will have a posthumous award in 2023.
The daughter of the singer, Jacqie Rivera, current head of Jenni’s companies, shared the news on her Instagram account. She congratulated her mother, of whom she said she could almost hear her words of happiness.
“Wow. I have no words to explain the joy, the excitement, and the sense of pride that has filled, not only me but all of our hearts,” Jacqie said on Instagram. “Thank you for loving her so much.”
A year ago, the youngest son of Jenni Rivera, Johnny, shared in an interview with El gordo y la Flaca that the family would seek Jenni to be recognized on the Walk of Fame, making their request.
In order for an artist to receive a star on the famous Paseo, the artist –or the requester in case the famous has already died– must ensure that his or her career passes through a strict analysis. There are around 300 annual applications to obtain this recognition.
Jenni Rivera had already been recognized in life with a star on the Las Vegas Walk of Fame. She received the recognition with her then-husband, Esteban Loaiza, and her entire family.
Rivera is mostly known for her music that spanned multiple styles of Latin music like Banda and Mariachi. She became one of the best-selling Mexican artists of all time. Rivera died in a plane crash in 2012 but has remained one of the most influential Mexican American singers.
Along with Rivera, Paul Walker and Marc Anthony will also be recognized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
