After starting just over a month ago, ITV’s Love Island has already received nearly 800 complaints.
A source from Ofcom has confirmed this to be true.
It seems to be that viewers of the popular competition show have complained surrounding bullying on the show, as well as concerns involving contestants’ mental health, which has always been an issue with regards to Love Island.
Fans of the show had also complained about the age gap between Gemma, 19, and her first partner in the show, Davide, who is 28.
Gemma was also in the firing line, as were producers, when it seemed to be that she was getting way more screen time compared to other contestants. Viewers put this down to her famous footballer dad, Michael Owen.
With regards to the mental health concerns, this has also been a controversial yet serious topic regarding the show with previous contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis committing suicide not long after taking part in the shows – as well as host Caroline Flack.
There have been reports that ITV now provide contestants with mental health services and support, as they hadn’t before.
