Meghan Markle’s half-sister Samantha Markle is reported to be taking her younger sister to court.
According to Samantha’s legal team they have a strong defamation case on their hands which are primarily based on the comments she made during her Oprah Winfrey interview last March.
One of the remarks that rubbed her up the wrong way referred back to when Meghan spoke to Oprah about being an only child and how she ‘’wished she had siblings’’ and ‘’would have loved to [have siblings]’’.
However Meghan’s legal team has commented that those comments were subjective and weren’t necessarily factual.
Samantha’s team are adamant that they have a strong enough case however, making their point that her comments about being an only child are not ‘subjective’, you either are an only child, or you’re not.
Her legal team also are using the facts that Samantha has been labelled ‘Meghan’s lying sister’, after Meghan said that her sister had changed her name from Grant to Markle once Meghan’s relationship with Prince Harry went public.
Samantha’s legal team has said that their client is hurt by these allegations.
Meghan’s team however, has said that their claims are weak and have filed to have the lawsuit dismissed. Her team wrote the following ‘’There is nothing defamatory about that statement—saying that someone changed their name to be associated with another is not in and of itself defamatory in any way.”
Both sides are now awaiting for the judges final ruling on the case.
