Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny is helping fund a new home for 10-year-old Mayah Nicole Zamora, a survivor of the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
Mayah lived just a few blocks away from the home of the shooter and found it too difficult to return there, according to CNN. As a result, Bad Bunny and his nonprofit the Good Bunny Foundation, gave a “generous donation” to the Correa Family Foundation, a nonprofit started by former Astros player Carlos Correa and his family.
Mayah was hurt during the shooting and had a 66-day hospital stay. She was the last victim to be released from the hospital, nine weeks after the massacre, and she underwent 20 surgeries after suffering gunshot wounds to her arms, chest, hands and back.
Bad Bunny hosted Mayah and her family at his concert in Dallas on Sept. 9. She was given the chance to get up close and personal with the “Un Verano Sin Ti” singer. The Foundation posted a photo of her receiving an autographed sweater.
On Aug. 23, Mayah was honored as the August Hero of the Month at the Houston Astros baseball game and threw out the first pitch. The foundation’s Hero of the Month initiative highlights children “who exemplify bravery, hope and outstanding courage as they work to overcome some of life’s most difficult challenges.”
