A 19 year old male who remains unnamed has been held in custody after he allegedly set fire to a mall in Wisconsin where a congressman’s office is located.
The reason for the apparent attack was due to the federal ban of TikTok in the U.S, which later went on to be banned for just 12 hours.
Glenn Grothman, a Republican representative, voted for a bill that would cause the TikTok app to be banned and sold.
The fire that happened in Fond du Lac, was reported around 1am, with reports that no one was injured, with just minor damage of the office.
Fond du Lac police force and firefighters attended the scene quickly, with Chief Aaron Goldstein commenting ”we are relieved that no one was injured and the office was unoccupied at the time of the fire”.
Goldstein went on to say
”Acts of violence, in any form, are not tolerated, and we remain committed to protecting the safety and well-being of our community. I am thankful for the swift response of our officers in helping knock down the fire and locating the suspect of this arson.”
Grotham commented on the situation ”I deal with obviously dozens of issues and we cannot have people – if they disagree with me – say the way to settle that disagreement is let’s try to burn down the congressman’s office.”
The suspect was arrested after he was seen near the building, apparently watching ‘the fire burn’ and is being held in Fond du Lac County Jail and will be charged with arson.
